Bij Suburban Records geloven ze dat alle geweldige muziek een ding gemeen heeft: soul. Soul heeft het unieke vermogen om geluk, liefde, verdriet en woede te communiceren - alle essentiële kwaliteiten die een gemiddeld nummer onderscheiden van een uniek nummer.

Habitants is een Nederlandse formatie met (voormalige) leden van The Gathering. Op het debuutalbum One Self (2018) kiest de band voor een ingetogen, filmische benadering met traag voortschrijdende composities, gelaagde gitaren, spaarzame ritmes en zachte zang. De productie is transparant en legt de nadruk op sfeer en dynamiek. Tekstueel staat introspectie centraal, met thema’s rond identiteit en relaties. Het album kwam tot stand via crowdfunding en positioneert de groep in het grensgebied tussen dreampop, slowcore en postrock.

HABITANTS was brought to life by René Rutten (The Gathering) and his wife Gema Perèz. And in Anne van den Hoogen (Rosemary & Garlic) they have a singer who matches a dark film noir sound with airy, clear vocals. Mirte Heutmekers (bass) and Jerôme Miedendorp de Bie (Drive by Wire, drums) complete the band. The sound of HABITANTS is reminiscent of the 80s, it is built around electric guitars that give a dreamy, yet analogue feel. Think Dead Can Dance or Cocteau Twins, but any comparison is difficult to make. All 9 songs on ONE SELF are overwhelming landscapes in which it is a matter of discovery.
